Bret Michaels on American Idol sings with Casey James: Celebrity Apprentice winner rocks

May 26 2010 -- The night of American Finale surprises included one shocker that hardly nody knew about, the return of Bret Michaels. As we all know Bret has been ill with life threatening complications that almost killed him. Last Sunday he took to the television by winning Celebrity Apprentice and tonight he came on strong singing with Casey James.

The evening performance definitely went to Michaels and James. A simple song with several meanings, the two rocked it out and made America want to start crying as well all could see Bret Michaels was alive and well.
The talent for the evening didn't stop with Bret Michaels. There was Janet Jackson, Alice Cooper, Kelly Clarkson, and even Carrie Underwood just to name a few of the big names that graced the Nokia stage. All of them shared their music with the finale of the decision on who was the next American Idol.

who won american idol tonight

Lee Dewyze, 24-year-old former paint-store employee was crowned as this season's winner of American Idol, beating out Crystal Bowersox, the favorite to win.
Incase you missed finale, the show was a two-hour dedication to host Simon Cowell who had announced earlier this season that he would be leaving, as well as a showcase of performances from former Idol winners and major names like Janet Jackson, Christina Aguilera, Chicago, Hall & Oats, Joe Cocker, Michael McDonald, Alice Cooper and the recently recovered, Brett Michaels.

American Idol winner: Lee DeWyze, Crystal Bowersox and Joe Cocker sing ‘With a Little Help from my Friends’ (video)

The American Idol winner is Lee DeWyze and before the results were read an incredible performance was given when Lee DeWyze, Crystal Bowersox and Joe Cocker sang ‘With a Little Help from my Friends.’ There’s no doubt that some would say it sounded as if Janis Joplin was in the room!
Tonight had many guest performances including a surprise appearance by Bret Michaels, Paula Abdul, all of the Idol winners (except for David Cook), past season contestants, Janet Jackson, Alice Cooper, Alanis Morissette, Michael McDonald, Hall and Oates, Chicago, the Bee Gees, Cristina Aquilera and more.

You may watch the video of American Idol winner Lee DeWyze, Crystal Bowersox and Joe Cocker singing in the video player below.

As far as American Idol finales go, this one was pretty good. It didn’t have the same type of showy feel that other finales have, but since it was a farewell to Simon Cowell, it was a fitting tribute. Lee DeWyze may have been the most emotional American Idol winner the show has ever had as well.

North, South Korea sever ties

North, South Korea sever ties

BEIJING – North and South Korea both took steps Tuesday to sever their ties, plunging relations on the peninsula to their lowest level in years after the sinking of a South Korean warship.
North Korea said late Tuesday that it would sever all ties with the South, cut off communications and not resume any contact during the tenure of South Korean President Lee Myung-bak. The North also said it would expel workers from a jointly run industrial park in response to the South's efforts to seek redress for the ship's sinking.
Earlier, the South Korean president said he would redesignate North Korea his country's "principal enemy" – a designation dropped during inter-Korean detente in 2004. On Monday, Lee announced tough trade measures against Pyongyang, including a ban on all imports and exports and the closure of South Korean waters to ships from the North.
Although South Korea has said it will not retaliate with force, instead seeking sanctions before the U.N. Security Council, North Korea accused Seoul of making a "deliberate provocation aimed to spark off another military conflict."
The South Korean naval vessel Cheonan was on patrol in the Yellow Sea on March 26 when an explosion ripped apart the hull, killing 46 crew members. Investigators from South Korea and several other nations, including the United States, issued a report last week saying that the sinking was the result of a North Korean torpedo.
On Tuesday, North Korea showed no signs of flinching in the standoff with South Korea.
North Korea said it had given permission for its soldiers to shoot at South Korean loudspeakers, a response to an announcement Monday that Seoul would resume broadcasting propaganda across the demilitarized zone that divides the peninsula.
The strongest measure, announced late in the day, was the severing of all relations and communications with South Korea. As a practical matter, that would mean closing an industrial park in Kaesong, just north of the DMZ, which was once the showcase for cooperation between the Koreas.
North Korean leader Kim Jong Il might be able to exploit rising tensions with South Korea to distract his nation's citizens from the abysmal state of their economy. His popularity has suffered because of a botched currency reform late last year. The ailing 68-year-old leader is also in the process of trying to install his youngest son as his successor.
"Dictatorships undergoing internal political turmoil generally manifest belligerent external behavior," the Washington-based Center for Strategic and International Studies said in a report Tuesday.

Springboks' Juan Smith still getting over loss of his father

Rugby News
JUAN SMITH is unlikely to play again for South Africa until the home leg of the Tri-Nations in late August after revealing he has yet to get over the death of his father.
The 28-year-old Cheetahs flanker was surprisingly left out of the Springbok team to play Wales in Cardiff on June 5, but has now explained that he had asked to be excluded.
Smith’s father Giel passed away in Bloemfontein in early April, prompting the forward to miss a few Super 14 games for his franchise, who he captains.
With several regular national players not chosen for the game at the Millennium Stadium due to their involvement in the competition finale, he was expected to play.
But he said: “My mom is going through a tough time and is very emotional. I have been very busy of late as I played for the Cheetahs in the Super 14 after my father’s death.
“That is why his passing has not really sunk in. The reality only hit home now and I don’t want to play for the Boks if I’m not 100% right.”
While he could not set an exact date for his return, he suggested that he may play again for the world champions when they return from their three-game tour to Australia and New Zealand.
The Springboks’ first home game in the Tri-Nations is against New Zealand in Johannesburg in August and Smith added: “We’ll see how things look after the overseas leg of the Tri-Nations.”
He also hailed the compassionate side of coach Peter de Villiers after he was granted leave of absence.
Smith said: “I appreciate being a player under Peter.
“His relationship with every player is incredible and that is what makes him such a good coach.
“It’s the first time I’m in a Bok team where a coach cares so much about the players. He went to the trouble of flying up to see me and said he’s 100% behind me.”
Meanwhile, Jean de Villiers has withdrawn from the South Africa team to play Wales because of injury.
The Munster centre, one of six overseas-based Springboks named in the starting line-up for the Millennium Stadium Test, hurt his shoulder and has been replaced by Jaque Fourie.
It means Fourie will now play alongside Bath’s Butch James in midfield.
De Villiers initially decided not to select the Stormers centre due to his side’s participation in the Super 14 final against the Bulls this weekend.

slipknot bassist

Autopsy to be conducted on Slipknot bassist

The autopsy of Paul Gray, the bassist for the Grammy-winning metal band Slipknot, will be conducted Tuesday, authorities said. The autopsy, including toxicology tests, will allow medical examiners to determine Gray's preliminary cause of death.
He was found dead Monday morning by staff at the TownePlace Suites in Des Moines, Iowa, said Sgt. Dave Disney of the Urbandale Police Department.
Gray was 38.
Slipknot -- whose fans are affectionately known as "Maggots" -- was formed in Des Moines in late 1995 and became immediately recognizable for the dark and often grotesque homemade Halloween masks its nine members wore on stage. The band won a Grammy award in 2006 for best metal performance for "Before I Forget."
Slipknot's self-titled debut album went platinum in 2000. Its fourth album, "All Hope is Gone," spent 69 weeks on Billboard's Top 200 charts, debuting at No. 1 its first week in 2008.
Gray was arrested in Iowa in 2003 on drug possession charges when police found small amounts of marijuana, two syringes and a substance that field-tested positive for cocaine after he was involved in a wreck with another motorist.

Monjack found dead at home

Tony Bertolotti, brother of late actress Britanny Murphy, isn't surprised -- and certainly isn't sad -- about the sudden death of brother-in-law Simon Monjack on Sunday. The guy was insane. ... Our family thinks that this thing will still blow up and that the truth will eventually come out about our sister," Bertolotti told RadarOnline.com. He was referring to suspicions surrounding Murphy's death in December at the age of 32.Monjack, 40, who reportedly had health issues involving his heart, was found dead by Murphy's mother in the Hollywood home he once shared with the actress.
According to Los Angeles police, Monjack died of natural causes, but an investigation is ongoing. It will be many weeks before toxicology test results are in.
Murphy's death was attributed to pneumonia complicated by an iron deficiency, anemia and multiple drug intoxication.

Party time over for Lohan

Lindsay Lohan's court hearing Monday in Los Angeles was relatively drama-free: The actress was ordered to wear an alcohol-monitoring bracelet and will be subject to weekly random drug testing.
If the 23-year-old is caught drinking or using drugs, conditions of her bail will be violated and she could land in the big house. Lohan is due back in court July 6.

IBM kicks off spending spree with Sterling Commerce

IBM CEO Sam Palmisano said in a meeting with investors earlier this month that his company plans to spend $20 billion on acquisitions over the next five years. IBM announced Monday its first billion-dollar deal of 2010, acquiring Sterling Commerce from AT&T for $1.4 billion in cash.
Tech M&A deals of 2010
If IBM makes good on its plans to spend $20 million on takeovers between 2010 and 2015, it will represent a more accelerated acquisition pace than IBM has maintained since Palmisano took the CEO position in March 2002.
IBM has spent roughly $14 billion to acquire 70 companies since 2002, according to a presentation by Mark Loughridge, IBM's senior vice president and CFO. Nearly half of those deals were inked in the last three years. From 2007 to 2009, IBM acquired 33 companies for $9 billion, with investments concentrated in business analytics.
The Sterling deal ranks among IBM's largest in recent years. IBM spent $1.2 billion to acquire analytics player SPSS last year, and in 2007 it offered $5 billion to acquire Cognos.
Here's a list of the companies Big Blue has acquired so far in 2010, beginning with the most recent.
Sterling Commerce: IBM is paying $1.4 billion in cash to acquire Sterling Commerce, an AT&T company that makes business-to-business e-commerce software designed to help companies connect with the systems of their customers, partners and suppliers. It also operates a hosted trading partner network for connecting business partners.
Cast Iron Systems: On May 3, IBM announced the acquisition of Cast Iron Systems, a data-integration specialist that focuses on connecting on-premise systems with cloud-based software. Its technology is available as a physical or virtual appliance, or a cloud service. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Intelliden: In mid-February IBM scooped up network change and configuration management vendor Intelliden for an undisclosed amount. Intelliden's automation tools can track changes made to network devices such as hubs, routers and switches and ensure those changes won't negatively impact the IT environment -- a capability that's crucial as data centers adopt virtualization and cloud-based services.
Initiate Systems: Master data management vendor Initiate Systems was picked up by IBM on Feb. 3 for an undisclosed amount. MDM software is designed to ensure consistency of data, such as customer and product information, that's recorded in multiple systems and applications within a company.
National Interest Security Company: IBM added public sector consulting expertise to its ranks with the Jan. 20 acquisition of National Interest Security Company. Headquartered in Fairfax, Va., NISC offers defense, healthcare, energy, logistics and security services, primarily to federal, state and local government agencies. Financial details were not disclosed.

lost message board

Lost Finale Review: Let There Be Light...

Throughout season six of Lost, fans had wondered about what they were seeing. Would our beloved characters end up in a seemingly random Sideways World, thereby negating all we'd watched for five years, rendering life on the island meaningless?
In the end, as Jack's four words above to Desmond sum up nicely: no. It mattered. What happened happened. We'd been told this many times and the final 10 minutes of this series finale explained why: everything we saw on the island was real. These were the real lives of real people with seriously real problems.
At some point, they died. We witnessed many of these deaths. Others occurred at later dates. But, in the end, the castaways could only move on to a light-filled world beyond this one if they tweaked Jack's season one advice: after-live together, or die alone.
Sideways Characters CollideDesmond Pic
The final message of Lost is an interesting one, a profound one and the mythology surrounding it will debated among viewers for as long as the series ran. But let's start with events on the island during these two-and-a-half hours - because they were a major clusterf%$k!
Producers Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse have spent season six telling us the show is about characters, not jaw-dropping answers. We've been on board with this assessment. However, "The End" sacrificed logical, suspenseful storytelling in the name of delayed character development/resolution.
Every development on the island felt arbitrary, something cooked up by the writers as an after-thought just to get individuals in place for the series-concluding revelation. To wit:
Rose and Bernard pulled Desmond to safety?!? Jack and Locke met in a field, and the new Jacob had no actual plan? He was on board with simply hoisting Desmond down a cave and seeing what his actions produced?
We understand Jack is a man of faith now, but it wasn't clear what viewers were supposed to be waiting for as all this went down. In the past, each season's end game was clear: get into the hatch... get off the island... get back to the island... But this sort of focus was missing from this finale (heck, from the season) because Lost purposely kept us in the dark about the Sideways World.
MIB wanted to destroy the island, and we were told this was bad. Everyone would perish. But Sideways Desmond was around, enlightening folks left and right, causing on-island events to lack a sense of urgency.
Clearly, everyone was not going to die, no matter what MIB threatened or did. Almost as obviously, they'd all be awoken to their experiences on the island. The past few weeks were building to that. What would this mean in the battle of good vs. evil? Where would the characters go from there? Those were the questions on my mind during the finale, all of which were tackled in the final few minutes - but all of which also made the preceding two hours and twenty minutes feel anticlimactic.
I found myself almost bored, anxious to get everyone enlightened so we could get to the show's overarching resolution.
I was especially disappointed when Kate killed MIB. Really?!? After creating such a mysterious, indestructible force of evil, the show made him human again with the removal of a stone by Desmond, and then killed him off via a gun shot to the back? It wasn't the ending Smokey deserved.
It was also just hokey. The driving rainstorm. Jack's slow-motion jump/punch. Kate's line about saving one bullet for Locke. I expect such levels of cheese from bad action movies, not iconic TV shows.
Of course, these aren't the developments fans will be debating and discussing in the hours, weeks and months to come. Did everything on the island feel sloppy and arbitrary? Yes. But it was what we learned about the characters' off-island lives that will be lighting up our Comments section below (be opinionated there, but please be respectful of each other).
Operated On
The Sideways World is a form of purgatory, a place the castaways unknowingly created because they could not "move on" without one another's support and love. In order to "remember," they needed to be reminded of what they experienced on the island, of who they met, of how they came together.
Did Jacob help them create this world? Was that the significance of his touch? He may have been a proponent of free will, but Jacob was also fond of pushing people in a certain direction. He didn't simply bring individuals to the island to find a successor; he brought them to prove his message: It only ends once. Everything else is just progress. Viewers were led to believe he meant his struggle with his brother.
But what better way to sum up a human life? Lost concluded its ambitious run by telling us: this world is filled with mistakes and regrets, but it's all a lesson. Learn from it. Rely on other people ("I can't do it without you," Kate told Claire during the latter's labor) and strive for progress in all you do. You'll never truly know any kind of higher power, so stop focusing on it (we've seen what happens to those that do. Sorry, pals of MIB and purged Dharma folk... and, really, viewers that craved answers above all else).
Want to achieve a happy after-life? Simply love your fellow man in this life.
That was the message, but getting there required twists, turns, questions and answers. We stopped wondering a long time ago about the Dharma Initiative, or what made Walt special, or any number of issues related to mundane island facts. Instead, when faced with this new information on the Sideways World, the following inquiries, points and observations come to mind:
  • What is Eloise Hawking's role in it? She didn't want Desmond to enlighten his friends... simply because she didn't want her son to move on and move away? She was made out to be all-knowing throughout Lost, but her motives were never clear.
  • Same for Charles Widmore. What did he know about the island and what was his end game?
  • Where did Jughead fit into all this? Did its explosion create the Sideways World? Having a specific event create it would seem to run counter to the concept that the castaways themselves created this place via their formed bond/community on the island.
  • Simply amazing acting all around. Every awakening scene was played perfectly by those involved.
  • The finale was filled with self-aware winks at the audience: Sawyer described Jack's plan as a "long con," Kate laughed at the name "Christian Shepard," Hurley might as well have been channeling Lindelof and Cuse when he responded to Sayid's questions about "rules" with the response: "Trust me."
  • In the end, one could interpret the arbitrary events on the island (as outlined above) as part of a grander message about the island and/or religion itself: it's all arbitrary! Jack caught on to this when he went along with the water con for Hurley's appointment. It was a made-up ceremony, as were the rules that governed this special place. After all, who can possibly say for sure what is right and wrong when it comes to such higher powers?
  • Sayid and Shannon?!? Barf! Somewhere, Nadia lovers are outraged that Sayid's enlightenment came at the hands (and lips) of this woman, as opposed to the one most of us believed was his soulmate.
  • Absolutely loved the fact that Ben didn't believe he had earned a place inside the church, as well as Hurley's nod to him making a great number-two. Ben truly had done everything in the name of the island, in the name of what he thought was best for mankind. After learning that MIB played him, and watching Jack's sacrifice, he apparently started his road to redemption as soon as Hurley's asked for his assistance - but he still didn't believe that was enough to warrant him a spot with the other survivors.
This won't be my final say on the show or the episode. Not by a long shot. There's a lot to analyze, critique and praise. It's been a pleasure to have taken the Lost ride with you this season, and I'd love to hear from readers now.
Many characters on the finale said "it worked." So therein lies the question:So tel me did the conclusion of 'lost' work out for you?

who won celebrity apprentice 2010

who won celebrity apprentice 2010’

Bret Michaels work with contestants for his show Sinbad, Rod Blagojevich, Michael Johnson, Selita Ebanks, and Cyndi Lauper to return for the live telecast. Former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich thanked Donald Trump for allowing him to be on the show to help the charity.
He beat actress Holly Robinson Peete after the pair went head to head in a contest sponsored by soft drink giant Snapple.
Each had to invent a new flavour for the company. Michaels came up with a Trop-A-Rocka blend, while Peete invented a Compassionberry Tea.
Michaels, 47, won $250,000 for his charity of choice – the American Diabetes Association. He is a diabetes sufferer.
The singer, famous for his colorful bandannas and long blond hair, survived the brain hemorrhage and appeared on the road to recovery but was then readmitted to hospital after experiencing numbness on the left side of his body.
It's down to Holly Robinson Peete, who proved herself as one of the season's fiercest players when she set a Celebrity Apprentice record for the most money raised during a fund-raising challenge.  While she might have rubbed some people the wrong way this season (just ask Cyndi Lauper about that), it's hard to deny that Holly deserves a spot in the finale. But does the determined actress have what it takes to beat viewer favorite Bret Michaels? Even if we forget that Bret Michaels became one of America's most loved celebrities after facing life-threatening health problems recently, his time on Celebrity Apprentice was memorable. Bret's creativity and positive attitude went a  long way in each challenge -- and his presence was a sharp contrast to the celebrities who took themselves too seriously. ( Take a quiz to find out how much you remember about season three.)
So, can you guess who won Celebrity Apprentice 2010? Donald Trump will announce the winner live, after viewers see Holly and Bret battle it out in the final challenge.  Trump is also making this decision after witnessing the outpouring of love for Bret in recent weeks.  So, can you guess who the Celebrity Apprentice winner will be?  Share your opinion in the poll or tell us who you are rooting for in the comment.

lost ending

'Lost' series finale: 'The End' bittersweet but satisfying ... we think

“If you stick with me,” says Hurley about a third of the way through the epic “Lost” series finale yesterday evening, “you’ll be happy you did.”
We are. We think. Six equally

fascinating and frustrating seasons of ABC’s hit drama came to end tonight with a conclusion that delivered gratifying codas for beloved characters, though it maddeningly side-stepped the show’s legion of unresolved enigmas.
Which we kind of expected when, during the special to preceded the finale, “Lost” co-creator Damon Lindelof summed up the drama this way: “The show is, at its heart and soul, a character study. We were fascinated as storytellers by what makes people the way they are.”

pac man 30th anniversary game

Google celebrates Pac Man 30th anniversary
Google celebrates Pac Man 30th anniversary with icon game. 30 years ago, Pac Man was created and became perhaps one of the most addictive games ever developed. Installed in a large video game box, Pac Man became the favorite after-school and at times during school time-waster, and in online form it still is.
Google proved that today with its' installation of a "logo-based" Pac Man game placed where the standard Google logo is located on its page. This blogger tried the game several times and did not do well simply because the cursor that you would assume was to control the Pac Man failed to do so. The result was that I was absorbed every time.
I thought it was the fault of the Apple Safari Browser's memory leak problem, which does make sense given the fact that the cursor was working some of the time, but not all of the time. And in Pac Man, time is really important.
Of course, posting a YouTube video of my failure gained comments of advice. Apparently I was supposed to work the 'page up, page down' keys, which I did do and gained more success than what's on the video screen.
Rats!
Well, you can see how much fun Pac Man can be to play. No wonder it's lasted 30 years. Play it right back

air india crash

Casualties in Air India crash, local official says

A plane crash in southern India killed more than 160 passengers early Saturday, an Indian official said. About five or six people survived, V.S. Acharya, the home minister of India's Karnataka state, told CNN-IBN.
The Air India plane was carrying 165 passengers -- including four infants -- and went down around 6:30 a.m. (9 p.m. ET Friday) near the Mangalore International Airport, CNN's sister network reported, citing an airline spokesman.
The Boeing 737 burst into flames after overshooting the runway on a flight from Dubai, CNN-IBN reported.
Eight to ten people had been taken to hospitals, Gopal Hosur, inspector general of police in Mangalore, told CNN's sister network.
Hosur said he did not know their conditions or whether they would survive.
Witnesses told CNN-IBN that the plane crashed through the hilltop airport's boundary wall and fell into a valley.
The network said that smoke from the plane, and the hilly and wooded surrounding terrain were hampering rescue efforts, though about 25 to 30 ambulances were on the scene.
Visibility was less than 1.8 miles (3 km) at the time of the crash, CNN meteorologist Jennifer Delgado said, with clouds and light rain throughout the region.
It was unclear how many crew members were aboard.

dunn and bradstreet

New Zealand’s business environment is clearly in a state of flux, prompting credit reporting agency Dun & Bradstreet to downgrade the risk profile of 9,000 companies while upgrading 10,500 firms.
In carrying out a risk profile revision for 20,000 companies in the first three months of the year, D&B predicts many firms are likely to experience financial distress over the coming year. Younger and smaller firms accounted for the greatest number of company downgrades, with the services, wholesale trade, manufacturing and retail trade sectors now being more likely to pay their trade accounts delinquently.
D&B’s general manager John Scott said the latest figures provide an important reminder to executives as many businesses underestimate the challenges an economic recovery presents.
“Although the past couple of years have been difficult, government stimulus measures and low interest rates encouraged households to spend and businesses to invest,” Scott said. “However, this silver lining is disappearing – interest rates are expected to begin rising in the near future and the government is winding back the stimulus.”
“In addition, credit remains tight and the risk aversion practices that financial institutions fine tuned during the crisis look set to continue throughout 2010," he said. "With these factors in mind, it is clear New Zealand’s executives need to maintain their risk management vigilance to ensure they don’t become another statistic on the failed business register.”

Gloria James and Delonte West Affair, Matt Lauer Denies Affair, A-Rod Fought Over by Kate Hudson and Cameron Diaz
LeBron James' Mother and His Teammate, a Morning Show Co-host and a Yankee Third Baseman All in Celebrity Sex Scandal News

Gloria James, the mother of LeBron James is reportedly sleeping with one of his teammates, while Matt Lauer denies having cheated on his wife and Cameron Diaz is accused by Kate Hudson of having a relationship with Alex Rodriguez out of revenge.
Gloria James is said to be having a sexual affair with her son LeBron's teammate and friend, Delonte West. Reports indicate that LeBron James found out about the affair prior to the Celtics' Game Four matchup against the Boston Celtics in their recently concluded playoff series.

Many are speculating that LeBron James' suddenly diminished play from Game 4 on was the result of him being upset about the relationship between his mother and his teammate. West has had a number of off the court issues in the past; his lifestyle has hardly been beyond reproach. For LeBron James, who has led a seemingly scandal free existence, that fact would likely be particularly difficult to take. All in all, it's just another day in celebrity sex scandals.

7-year-old ‘Single Ladies’: too sexy, or not?

LOS ANGELES (WIREUPDATE.COM) — A YouTube video of a group of seven year olds dancing to Beyonce’s ‘Single Ladies’ has gone viral on the Internet, with people saying the underage girls are dressed too sexy and are dancing inappropriately.

The video features the 7-year-olds wearing skimpy tops, hot pants, and thigh high stockings while dancing to Beyonce’s ‘Single Ladies’. While a crowd can be heard cheering on the background, people launched fierce criticism against the video and against the girls’ parents on websites.
“Obviously a talented group of dancers, but this is just wrong,” wrote YouTube user MakeupxJunkie09. “Being a mom myself, I would never consider letting my daughter walk around the house like this! Let alone on a stage in front of people. The mothers of these girls should be ashamed!”
“This is disgusting. What parents in their right mind would let their daughters dance like that [and] wear those clothes?! They are 7!!!,” wrote user maryownzyou2. “Nice video for sickos who like little girls!”
However, not everyone was as critical. “There is nothing wrong with how the young girls dance,” wrote user nelgar0312. “Because if this is their passion, [they're] doing it because they love it. It’s better to have them doing something they love then doing something that will get them in trouble!! So, you go girls!”

the vampire diaries season 2

The American supernatural–fantasy horror television series ‘The Vampire Diaries’ whose jaw dropping finale episode aired on Thursday has raised lot of questions in the viewers mind. But, those questions will be answered when the show will return to your idiot box with its next season.

In February 2010, the CW announced that it will be renewing the show for a second season. The season 2 of The Vampire Diaries’ will be telecasted in September 2010 on the CW. And after last night’s exciting episode it is expected that audience will desperately wait for the show’s second season to hit the television screen soon.

‘The Vampire Diaries’ which is developed by Kevin Williamson is based on the book series of the same name by L. J. Smith. The supernatural–fantasy horror show is about the life of Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev), who falls in love with vampire Stefan Salvatore (Paul Wesley). The series also focuses on the lives of Elena's friends and other inhabitants of the fictional town of Mystic Falls, Virginia. The series is a mix of teen drama and the supernatural.

flashforward cancelled

crubs, FlashForward Cancelled

It's also the end for Better Off Ted and Romantically Challenged.

The end is here for Scrubs... again. But this time it looks like it's really, really the end.

EW.com's Michael Ausiello is reporting that ABC has decided to cancel four series, including Scrubs, which returned in a very altered form this past season. The other three canceled series are FlashForward, Better Off Ted and Romantically Challenged.

None of these cancellations are particularly surprising. Scrubs and Better Off Ted had decidedly weak ratings when they returned mid season, particularly compared to ABC's successful new comedies -- Modern Family, Cougar Town and The Middle -- while Romantically Challenged had failed to make an impact after its recent debut.

FlashForward had come into the season with a ton of hype, but quickly began to fall in the ratings, among criticism of its storylines. Most believed ABC might bring back either FlashForward or their other new serialized, genre show, V, but not both. Recent weeks helped make the network's decision easier, as FlashForward continued to plummet, while V stabilized and had some recent upticks in the ratings – And V has indeed now been renewed

ascension day

Ascension Day is not for the EUR

With little support from the bigger boys out of mainland Europe due to Ascension Day, the market is trying to push the EUR through last week’s lows. Lack of liquidity, double touch option barriers and a malaise that the EUR has no inclination of technically trading higher is only compounding the currency’s downfall. Its day’s like this that end up being the most volatile. At these levels the EUR does not seem to have a heart beat, and the market does not seem to want to resuscitate it. This can only mean that despite the record speculative short and European investors divesting into gold will only push the EU/IMF accord supported currency lower. The market continues to take the attitude, ‘we will see you down there’.
The US$ is weaker in the O/N trading session. Currently it is lower against 10 of the 16 most actively traded currencies in a ‘subdued’ trading range.
Forex heatmap
Yesterday, it was not surprising to see the US trade balance widen for Mar. (-$40.4b vs. -39.4b). This regular announcement is beginning to have an anemic effect on the markets. The deficit has widened to its highest levels in over a year (+2.5%) on imports climbing faster than exports. The ‘widening’ is evidence that the US recovery remains in an upward trend. The uptick in consumer and business investment equates to imports needing to keep growing. On the flip side, one should also expect export numbers to improve as other economies begin to find their own growth traction. Digging deeper and breaking down the numbers, imports advanced +3.1% to $188.3b, led by a +$2.76b in crude purchases and a surprise increase in demand for foreign-made cars. If one excluded oil then the trade gap actually narrowed to -$15.6b from -$16.4b m/m. Exports, on the other hand managed to surge +3.2% to $147.9b. The increase was concentrated mostly in the emerging Asia and Latin America. Year-to-date, the EUR has slumped -12% vs. the greenback, this depreciation may eventually dampen the Euro-zones economic recovery. Various analysts are now forecasting a double-dip for the region which would result in only impeding US’s export growth.
The USD$ is lower against the EUR +0.15%, GBP +0.16%, CHF +0.18% and higher against JPY -0.23%. The commodity currencies are stronger this morning, CAD +0.73% and AUD -0.16%. The loonie remains in ‘no man’s land’, planning its assault on parity again. Yesterday, it was well contained, but there is life in the currency in the O/N session. Even with a weaker trade surplus print yesterday (+0.3b vs. +1.2b), it had little effect on the currency. On a cross related basis the CAD continues to find strong buyers and has managed to print an 8-year high vs. the EUR this week as investors seek surety in a currency that has strong fundamentals. Risk aversion trading strategies that historically require purchasing of the USD and selling of the loonie are simply being ignored. The dollar has been in demand vs. most of its other major trading partners and not against its largest. This week, the CAD retreated from a three-month low, after the EU/IMF accord announcement, as a record increase in ‘their’ employment last month (+108k vs. +24k) has dealers pricing in a rate hike by the BOC next month. Technical analysts have noted that the greenback has wanted to grind higher for surety reasons despite the threat of Canadian interest rate hikes, but, the countries stronger fundamentals coupled with a ‘rapid’ gold market is bringing loonie buyers on dollar rallies back into the market. Loosening risk aversion will only promote the currency even more.
It’s not surprising with the doubt that the markets are experiencing with the EU/IMF accord that growth currencies have retreated from their initial euphoric high recorded earlier this week. However, saying that, the AUD gained support last night from a stronger job’s report. Job growth accelerated last month, backed by full-time employment. Employment advanced for a second consecutive month (+33.7k vs. +22k), but managing to keep the unemployment rate steady at +5.4%. It’s noted that most of the jobs gains were in Queensland, which is the ‘source of much of the coal shipments to China’. The AUD in the O/N session extended its gains on speculation that the RBA may need to keep raising interest rates, despite signaling a pause last week (0.8982).
Crude is weaker in the O/N session ($74.82 down -83c). This week’s inventory EIA report has again put pressure on crude. Stocks have climbed for the 14th time in the last 4-months as refineries had various units lay idle. Supplies of crude increased +1.95m barrels to +362.5m vs. a forecasted climb of +1.6m. Inventories at Cushing increased +784k barrels to +37m (the highest level in 6-years). Not helping the cause, refineries operated at +88.4% of capacity, down -1.2%, w/w, the first decline in two months. On the flip side, gas inventories managed to fall, down -2.81m barrels to +222.1m. Analysts had expected an increase of +400k. This is certainly a bear report for the commodity. Of late, both the US economy and the dollars strength and not oil fundamentals have driven the market. The IEA has again cut its estimate of world oil demand this year by -220k to +86.4m barrels a day. According to the same organization, OPEC will need to pump +28.7m bpd to ‘balance global oil demand and supply this year’, that’s -400k barrels less than last month’s estimates. The market is now defending the $73-75 support levels, where earlier this week it had expected the commodity to revisit the $80 handle. Over the last 5-trading sessions the ‘black gold’ has managed to shave -13% of its value. Recent prices had been supported on ‘expectations that demand will climb as economies rebound’, however, the market will now rely on fundamentals and the oversupply of the commodity. Expect the market to continue to be better sellers on rallies.
Gold continues to outpace other asset classes and constantly recording new record highs (USD, EUR, GBP, JPY, CHF) on concerns that the EU/IMF loan accord to bail out indebted nations in Europe may not be enough to contain the sovereign debt crisis. Investors are speculating that the aid package could ‘cement easier monetary policy’ and promote inflation. In Europe, investors want to be in the ‘currency of last resort’ and are using the ‘yellow metal’ as their second reservable asset, supplementing their EUR denominated assets. Others have outright been liquidating their EUR holdings and buying gold ahead of a possible ‘dissolution of the monetary union’. Many foresee the aid package as quantitative easing. With the chances of monetary tightening being postponed in Europe is positive for the ‘yellow metal’ as interest rates are an ‘opportunity costs for non-yielding assets’. Year-to-date, the yellow metal has appreciated +13% on European contagion fears, while the EUR has depreciated -12% fueling demand for the commodity as an alternative investment. The technical bulls believe that $1,400 is a possible one-year target. For now, the market is a better buyer on pull backs ($1,235).
The Nikkei closed at 10,620 up +226. The DAX index in Europe was at 6,199 up +16; the FTSE (UK) currently is 5,388 up +5. The early call for the open of key US indices is lower. The US 10-year backed up 2bp yesterday (3.55%) and is little changed in the O/N session. The treasury market took down the second tranche of this week’s $78b supply of new product. Again dealers quite rightly cheapened the curve in anticipation. Yesterday’s $24b 10-year note was well received and yielded 3.548%. The indirect bid (a proxy for foreign demand) was 42% compared with 40.9% for the past eight auctions. The direct bid (non-primary dealers etc) jumped to 25% vs. 10.7% also in the past eight offerings. With the market needing to take down $16b long-bonds today and equity markets edging higher should provide further pressure to the curve.

spearmint

Spearmint Complete Guide,Details And Reviews Exclusive
Spearmint is a flavour used mainly in chewing gums and tooth paste that is either naturally or artificially created to taste like oil of spearmint (herb). It is also popular as a flavouring for milkshakes in New Zealand and other countries around the world.[who?]

Wrigley Company and Cadbury Adams are among the companies in the United States that manufacture and sell spearmint-flavoured chewing gum as Wrigley's Spearmint. Excel gum comes in this flavour in Canada; the same gum is sold as Eclipse in the US and Australia. Jolt gum is also available in a spearmint flavour. Freshen Up Gum is chewing gum produced in Brazil which also has a spearmint flavoured gum.

Wrigley also makes a sugar free chewing gum called Eclipse Sugarfree Spearmint and Extra Sugarfree Spearmint. For the person who doesn't like gum sticking to teeth there is Freedent Spearmint Chewing Gum.

The flavour is not restricted to chewing gums strictly. It is sometimes possible to buy spearmint-flavoured Mentos "chewy dragées" in some countries. They were (or still are) available in Germany, the Netherlandsand Poland. As of 2005, they aren't sold in the latter anymore.

In the UK, this brand has been almost replaced by Trebor Softmints in the customer awareness.[citation needed] Trebor Softmints offers spearmint flavour as a one of its two main choices.
Spearmint is grown for its aromatic and carminative oil, referred to as oil of spearmint. It grows well in nearly all temperate climates. Gardeners often grow it in pots or planters due to its invasive spreading roots. The plant prefers partial shade, but can flourish in full sun to mostly shade. Spearmint is best suited to loamy soils with plenty of organic material. Spearmint leaves can be used whole, chopped, dried and ground, frozen, preserved in salt, sugar, sugar syrup, alcohol, oil, or dried. The leaves lose their aromatic appeal after the plant flowers. Dry it by cutting just before, or right (at peak) as the flowers open, about 1/2 to 3/4ths the way down the stalk (leaving smaller shoots room to grow). There is some dispute as to what drying method works best; some prefer different materials (such as plastic or cloth) and different lighting conditions (such as darkness or sunlight).

Spearmint has been studied for antifungal activity; its essential oil was found to have some antifungal activity, although less than Oregano. Its essential oil did not show any evidence of mutagenicity in the Ames test.Spearmint has also been described as having excellent antioxidant activity; its antioxidant activity was found to be comparable to the synthetic BHT.Due both to its antioxidant activity and its common use to season lamb in Indian cuisine, it has been studied as an additive to radiation-processed lamb meat, and was found effective in delaying oxidation of fats and reducing formation of harmful thiobarbituric acids.

Spearmint is an ingredient in several mixed drinks, such as the mojito and mint julep. Sweet tea, iced and flavored with spearmint, is a summer tradition in the Southern United States. It is used as a flavoring for toothpaste and confectionery, and is sometimes added to shampoos and soaps. In herbalism, spearmint is steeped as tea for the treatment of stomach ache.

Jail booking statements detail abuse leading to Ethan Stacy's death

FARMINGTON, Utah - A pair of probable cause statements obtained by Fox 13 detail an extensive pattern of child abuse that Layton police detectives allege led up to the death of 4-year-old Ethan Stacy. They accuse his stepfather, Nathan Sloop, of murder and accuse him of burying the body in a shallow grave near Powder Mountain, using a hammer to destroy the boy's face to prevent identification.

The statements were part of what a judge in Farmington's 2nd District Court used to deny bail to Nathan Sloop, accused of murdering his stepson. The documents were given to Fox 13 and other news media under a government records request.

The graphic statements detail a pattern of abuse that officers discovered when investigating Ethan's disappearance. Detectives found photos of a bruised and swollen boy on Stephanie Sloop's cell phone, police wrote in the documents. When confronted, police said she revealed that her son had been beaten by Nathan Sloop.

"On 05/05/10 Nate became angry with Ethan and took him into his bedroom to be disciplined and closed the door. Stephanie stated that she could hear Nate slapping Ethan in the bedroom, and that when Nate left the bedroom, she entered the bedroom and found Ethan badly beaten about the head area and that Ethan's face was already beginning to swell," Layton police detective B. Plotnick wrote in the probable cause statement.

"Stephanie told us that she never got medical attention for Ethan, even though she knew that medical attention was needed."

The probable cause statements allege that the next day, Ethan was locked in his bedroom and left alone while Stephanie and Nathan went to the Farmington courthouse to be married.

"Stephanie stated that they locked Ethan in his bedroom by taking off the inside door knob," Plotnick wrote. "Stephanie further stated that they left Ethan locked in his bedroom due to the swelling and bruising on his face, and they felt that if Ethan was with them, someone might call the police."

Over the next several days, Ethan got progressively ill, police said Stephanie Sloop told detectives. He was vomiting, running a fever and would not eat. The couple forced the boy to drink two 16 oz. bottles of water, a bottle of KoolAid and orange juice in a two-hour period, police wrote in the jail statement.

On May 7, police said the boy was burned in the bathtub.

"Stephanie told us that she did not believe that Ethan had turned the hot water up, and that Nate had intentionally burned Ethan," Plotnick wrote, adding that Stephanie Sloop discovered feces in her son's mouth.

"Stephanie told us that she did not get medical attention for Ethan because Nate would harm her if she tried to do so," Plotnick wrote.

On May 9, police wrote that Stephanie Sloop checked on her son about 3 a.m., and found him asleep. When she returned from getting a prescription for her husband, Nate, about 5:30 a.m., police wrote that he informed her the boy was dead.

"Stephanie claimed that she attempted CPR, but that Ethan did not respond," police wrote. "Stephanie stated that she knew that Ethan was dead due to the fact that his arms were stiff, his body was cold to the touch and he had no pulse. Stephanie stated that she did not call the police because Nate told her that she would go to prison because of the bruising on Ethan from the prior abuse that week."

A probable cause statement filed when Nathan Sloop was booked into jail alleges the couple plotted to dispose of the body.

"This plan involved placing Ethan's body into plastic garbage bags and taping them up. He then put Ethan in a plastic bin," Layton police detective J. Roderick wrote. "Mr. and Mrs. Sloop drove Ethan to the Powder Mountain area where Mr. Sloop buried Ethan."

One of the statements says Stephanie Sloop purchased lighter fluid so they could burn the body, but another says only other evidence was burned. One of the jail statements also suggests a man named "Frank" was called to help bury the body. Layton police have not said they are seeking someone else in the killing.

Nathan Sloop led police to the grave at Powder Mountain, Fox 13 has learned.

"I find it probable to believe that Mr. Sloop engaged in a pattern of progressively more violent and injurious behavior towards Ethan," Roderick wrote.

Police wrote that Nathan Sloop took a hammer to the boy's face, disfiguring it and knocking out teeth "in an effort to defeat or delay identification."

A judge denied Nathan Sloop bail. He did set bail at $100,000 cash only for Stephanie Sloop, the Davis County Sheriff's Office said. The couple is due in court on Friday where they are expected to be formally charged.

who got kicked off american idol may 12

Who Got Voted Off American Idol May 12 2010 – American Idol Kicked Off Contestant May 12.  Who got voted off American Idol May 12? The 2010 Idol voting results are in, and Michael “Big Mike” Lynche was voted off.  The sadness of the voting results from this week’s American Idol is apparent, as the contestant had the biggest heart of them all.
This week’s voting show, which aired at 8/7c was a great show. Bon Jovi, Daughtry, and Fantasia performed and kept us on the edge of our seats.  The suspense leading up to the voting results is what keeps everyone tuned in, and therefore keeps the ad revenue rolling in to the network.
This is Simon Cowell’s last year on Idol before he launches another show, X Factor.  Many are wondering the fate of Idol, so the anticipation about this season is stronger than ever.  Some speculate that Ryan Seacrest will become the next “Simon Cowell” and others speculate that X factor will far surpass American Idol’s popularity.
In a weird twist of fate, Casey James was told that he was safe first. Of course, there wasn’t much suspense because we all know that the first person that they talk about on American Idol isn’t typically the one that gets voted off.
Lee DeWyze was the next safe individual, leaving many people scratching their heads as it was Crystal Bowersox and Michael Lynche were in the bottom two.  It’s at that defining moment that we realized that Michael Lynche’s fate was sealed in stone – he was going home.  The suspense was over for us at that point.
Now, had Crystal Bowersox been voted off, we would have been even more shocked.  Big Mike wasn’t necessarily a big shocker as he’s been voted off before.
Instead of consoling the person who got voted off American Idol, the heartfelt contestant was the one who was being comforted by his fellow contestant

The Boy is Mine Rose's Turn

Glee tonight was all about Laryngitis. The cast is looking at their own little issues but that doesn't stop the singing. The songs tonight included: in 'Jessies Girl', 'One', 'The Boy is Mine'. and 'Roses Turn.'
In this weeks episode Rachel is concerned when she gets a sore throat. Puck begins to focus on a calculated plan to change his social status at school and Kurt, in a moment to please his dad, takes the plunge of a personality change.

The show, a popular high school musical, will no doubt once again share the scenes and fun of Sue Sylvester. The television series Glee is in the second season. Full of drama, music and a little action there definitely is plenty for fans to appreciate.
Didn't hear the songs but want to enjoy them? Here are the songs for this evening sung by the Glee cast:

election results philippines 2010

Election Results Philippines 2010? Who won the Philippines Election?

Election Results Philippines 2010: Benigno Aquino appears to be heading towards a win.  He has 12.3 million votes, while the former president Joeseph Estrada's has 7.8 million.
The 50-year-old Aquino has promised to immediately begin prosecuting corrupt officials to restore government credibility.
There was a turnout of about 75% of 50.7 million registered voters, which meant around 7.6 million votes were still to be counted.  Like others before it, this one was also marred by violence and killings.
Officials confirmed election-related violence at more than 80 polling places nationwide, including bombings, shootouts, abductions and the burning of voting machines. At least six people were killed and eight were wounded, they said.
Campaign-related violence has killed more than 30 people in the last three months. The last election in 2007 saw more than 125 people killed.
Joseph Estrada, in a statement read on television by his son, said he would not concede until an official declaration by Congress but did not plan to protest against the results of who won the Philippines election.

Do not call register

Do not call register
There are rumors which tell us that the creator of Do Not Call Registry Tim Muris has joined Facebook. This is what puts a person in curiosity. Tim Muris who worked with Bush Administration and is an attorney why would join Facebook. It is probable that his experience would be utilized by Facebook for counseling regarding the protection of the information provided to Facebook.
The controversy is related to the plan of Facebook to enhance its sphere of working under which is using the personal information provided by the users for the fulfillment of its commercial purposes. This heinous act on behalf of Facebook has invited strong agitation from the users. Following the action of Facebook the Electronic privacy Information Centre registered a suit against FTC.

In the suit they have blamed Facebook for indulging in unfair and false commercial trends thereby violating the protection afforded to the customers. Moreover, it has also alleged Facebook that the act was repeated several times by the site which has caused the emotions of the users to boil up.
It is important to remember that Facebook has not confirmed Muris’ joining the site. As I mentioned earlier these are rumors but keeping in view the latest uproar over the privacy problems faced by Facebook there might have developed some kind of understanding between Tim and Facebook but both of them are not willing to reveal the hidden truth.

elena kagan husband

Elena Kagan- Elena Kagan husband: Elena Kagan personal life – not much is known!

Since the reports of the Solicitor General, Elena Kagan to be nominated to the Supreme Court by Barack Obama made headlines, a frantic group of netizens started looking for the private life of the first woman Solicitor General of the US. Today she has been one of the hottest searches more because of her personal life than the nomination toSupreme Court.
Though sources like New York Times etc. do report about the nomination by Obama, there are few sources which try to peep into her personal life as well. It is not yet clear whether the 50 year old Kagan is married though many feel that she is a lesbian!
Commenters on websites like Auto Admit and Daily Kos do hint about the possibility of Elena’s homosexuality. While someone writes that Kagan is an ex-partner of another legal academic, someone notifies that even if she has been a lesbian, she has never spoken about it. It is also reported that Epinions Harvard law review has termed her a lesbian.
Though nothing is clear about the marital status, or rather the sexuality preference about the to-be nominated to Supreme Court, Elena Kagan, we hope to get a clearer view of her private life in the upcoming days as she becomes more prominent which the nomination.

Lena Horne, Singer, Actress and Civil Rights Activist, Dies at 92

Lena Horne, who came to fame at Harlem's Cotton Club before embarking on a career in film, television and the theater, died Sunday. She was 92.

Having first made her mark as a nightclub performer, Horne made notable appearances in MGM musicals such as Cabin in the Sky and Stormy Weather, whose title song became her trademark musical number.

Despite her beauty and talent, Horne's film career was hobbled by racism, which often led to her performances being removed from films that played in Southern states. She was an outspoken advocate for civil rights throughout her career.

As well as numerous appearances on television, Horne found her greatest success returning to the stage, especially in her Tony-winning 1981 solo Broadway hit Lena Horne: The Lady and Her Music.

WMCI industry? Braille

Inmates at the Wyoming Medium Correctional Institution may soon be dealing in the business of Braille.

Prisoners at WMCI may soon begin producing Braille materials for the blind and vision impaired through an industry proposal being considered by the Wyoming Department of Corrections.

WMCI Warden Mike Murphy updated the Prison Community Partnership Committee of the plan at the committee’s quarterly meeting Wednesday evening at the prison.

“We’ve seen some inmates who have learned Braille and gone out and made a decent living writing and producing materials,” Murphy said. “It’s a specialized skill that there is a real world demand for.”

Inmates in the Braille production facility would initially transcribe books, magazines, restaurant menus and other publications into Braille. Once established, the program would also begin producing music and maps for the blind.

The Department of Corrections is in the process of developing a business plan for the Braille transcription program and ordering the necessary equipment, Department of Corrections Prison Industries Manager Lynn McAuley said in an interview Thursday morning. Department officials hope for a July or August start date for Braille production. If implemented, the Braille industry would employee as many as 15 WMCI inmates.

The idea for the Braille translation came from five inmates who worked at an out-of-state prison’s Braille production facility, McAuley said.

“They are already trained and had been doing the work before they got here,” she said. “They approached us with the idea and said it was something they’d been doing and really liked.”

If WMCI follows through with the proposed Braille production industry, Wyoming will become the 21st state to produce Braille materials in the correctional system. Iowa makes about $240,000 a year in revenue from a similar scale Braille facility,” McAuley said.

Another proposal being considered for WMCI is a central business office for the state’s prison industry system. The facility would be in charge of tracking and processing orders and accounting for the state’s prison industries.

With a Leg Injury, Eskendereya Is Retired

The injured Wood Memorial winner Eskendereya has been retired due to a leg injury. The owner Ahmed Zayat said Friday that tests showed that the 3-year-old colt had a soft tissue injury in his left front leg. The onetime likely Kentucky Derby favorite, Eskendereya was pulled a week before the race with swelling in the same leg. Zayat also announced he was selling a share of the horse to Jess Jackson’s Stonestreet Stables. The sale price was not disclosed. Zayat agreed to sell a portion of Eskendereya as part of a reorganization plan after his racing operation declared bankruptcy. The horse’s value was based on his performance in the Wood and the Fountain of Youth, and Zayat said the horse sold for more than the valuation price.

Another Bay Area city is taking a stand against Arizona's new immigration law, but unlike Oakland and San Francisco, city leaders in San Jose are going beyond the boycott. The backlash against Arizona, could be a golden business opportunity.

San Jose opposes Arizona's immigration law, but they're not just taking a stand verbally, they're putting it in their marketing material.
Arizona's controversial immigration law continues to strike an emotional chord, but in San Jose, city leaders are quietly putting their outrage where it could hurt Arizona financially.
"We're banning any travel using city funds from San Jose to Arizona," says San Jose City Council member Sam Liccardo.
Oakland and San Francisco are already doing the same. That's why San Jose's mayor is not just stopping at a citywide boycott. He's using the immigration law as a marketing tool against Arizona and for Silicon Valley.
"I think this is a big mistake, gives us an opening to keep some of these jobs in California. So we're going to take every advantage of it if we can," says San Jose Mayor Chuck Reed.
There's a long standing competition between Arizona and California. Arizona has successfully lured several Silicon Valley clean tech companies out of the state. Mayor Reed is sure they'll think twice now before moving.
"I'll be using it as leverage, just making my point that there's no place in the world like Silicon Valley where people from all over the world can come and focus on what we have in common rather than our differences," says Mayor Chuck Reed
"There's a comfortability [sic] that exists here that perhaps does not exist in Arizona," says Cliff Clarke, Clarke Clean CEO.
Clarke Clean is a green company that makes liquid coating for solar panels and windows. He wants to expand his operations, but refuses to go to Arizona as long as this law is in place. Clarke's says his work force is very diverse.
"If there was an environment that existed where at any time they could be pulled over while they were driving our vehicles or going from one place to the other, of course that would make people uncomfortable," says Clarke.
The city is betting that comfort level will make a difference, even though it costs 50 percent more to rent office space in San Jose, than in much of Arizona.
